The A9130 BSC performs the following functions:
It provides GSM facilities for circuit switched mobile traffic and GPRS
facilities to allow the transfer of data in packets
It manages the radio resources and radio parameters
The BSC shares resources between circuit switched and packet switched
traffic, according to configuration parameters.
It shields the MSC and the MFS from the radio information, and performs
switching between the radio Traffic Channels (TCHs) and the terrestrial
channels, to the MSC and the MFS.
It manages transmission equipment by performing fault management
and correlation.
From a transmission point of view, the A9130 BSC also performs a
concentration function, therefore allowing more radio TCHs to be connected
to the A9130 BSC than terrestrial channels to the MSC.
